Before the big showdown, the opening match of the day saw Valencia Vipers and Madrid Royals battling for third place. Madrid Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first. Valencia began cautiously, with Madrid’s disciplined bowling restricting scoring early on.
The Vipers lost their first wicket at 14 in the 5th over, courtesy of a brilliant caught-and-bowled effort from Maria. A vital partnership followed as Catalina Solar (13) and Sofia Costa (28)* added 55 crucial runs for the second wicket, stabilising the innings.
Despite the partnership, tight bowling from Madrid kept Valencia to 78/2 after 20 overs. Maria and Veronica claimed one wicket each for Madrid. Chasing 79, Madrid began cautiously as well. The Royals lost their first wicket in the 7th over at the score of 14, and from there the collapse began.
Madrid went from 14/1 to 43/7, losing six wickets for just 29 runs.
Valencia’s bowlers were exceptional: Catalina Solar and Arsmeen took two wickets each, Marisol and Sarachipped in with one wicket a piece.
For Madrid’s lower order, the required rate and disciplined bowling proved too much, and the team finished on 59/8, falling 19 runs short. Notably, no Madrid batter reached double figures.
